This Beef Picadillo is the perfect combination of meat and vegetables.

This Filipino beef picadillo recipe is prepared with basic ingredients. This is usually prepared with ground beef or ground pork seasoned with certain spices. In this recipe version, we use ground beef and a pack of mixed vegetables. Fresh vegetables will also do. Picadillo is one of my favorite dishes since it is so simple to make and tastes so good. You can add manzanilla olives and raisins to this recipe if desired; it tastes better. We usually eat this dish with rice or wrapped in tortillas like a taco. Instructions

  1. Heat cooking oil in a large pan or pot over medium heat.

  2. Saute the onion for 30 seconds, then add the garlic and saute until light brown and aromatic.

  3. Add the ground beef and saute with the spices. Allow to cook for 5 minutes, or till it turns light brown and the fats appear out of the meat.

  4. Add the tomato sauce, stir, then add a cup of beef broth and bring to a boil.

  5. Adjust the heat to medium-low. Cover the lid and simmer for 10 minutes.

  6. Season with salt, sugar, and ground black pepper. Simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated and the meat is tender.

  7. Add the diced potatoes, then mix. Cover again and cook for 3 minutes, then add the cooked mixed vegetables (carrot, corn, and peas) and cook for another 2 minutes.

    Note: Add manzanilla olives and raisins if desired. It will bring the dish to perfection.
  8. Taste it and adjust. Add more salt and pepper if necessary.

  9. Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm.
