Yummy Asado Recipe

The beef asado recipe with oyster sauce dish is so delicious. This dish can be cooked in many ways with so many variations. According to the historian, this tomato-based beef dish originates from the Philippines’ Central Luzon region. As I do research for the original recipe, for me, there is no standard Filipino Asado recipe that you will find anywhere. Unlike some other popular Filipino Adobo recipes, note that in some variations, they marinate the meat before cooking it for the best results. In this version, we cook the meat immediately with soy sauce, ketchup, and oyster sauce, which makes the dish a bit sweet. The result is also good due to the slow cooking of the meat together with the other ingredients that give this Filipino dish a flavorful taste. With this Filipino asado recipe, you may create variations using beef, chicken, or a chicken-pork combination, or even chicken alone.

Ingredients

Instructions

Preparation

  1. Clean the beef meat and cut it into chunks. Season it with salt and ground black pepper then set aside.

  2. Chop the onion and garlic. Slice the tomato.

Cooking

  1. In a pan or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil over medium-high heat.

  2. Saute the garlic until lightly browned and fragrant, then add the onion and saute until soft and translucent, followed by the tomato.

  3. Put the beef in. Cook the meat until it is well browned on all sides, for a couple of minutes.

  4. Add the soy sauce and oyster sauce. Continue sauteing. Then toss the sauce into the meat until it is evenly covered.

  5. Stir in ketchup until well combined while boiling gently. Then pour in the beef broth and put in the dried bay leaves.

  6. Cover and simmer over medium heat for 40 minutes, or until the beef is fork tender.

Note: Stir occasionally. Tenderizing the meat depends on the quality of the meat, so add water as needed.
  7. When the meat is about to tender and the sauce reduce to 1/3 add sugar then continue simmering it.

  8. When the meat is fork tender and the sauce reaches your preferred consistency. Remove from the heat and place on a serving plate to serve. Happy cooking, share and enjoy eating.
