Classic Nilagang Saging; Super Sarap with Ginamos
Nilagang saging, or boiled banana, is the simplest way to prepare bananas; it can be cooked with no extra cost. We used to make Nilagang Saging na Saba as a basic comfort food; it’s simple, super healthy, and yet another common merienda in the countryside. The leveled-up version of nilagang saging is Minatamis na Saging Saba, which adds a lot of sugar to have a sweetened sauce. The other one is the Saging Con Yelo Recipe; similar to minatamis, con yelo means “ice” added to the dish. For the fried bananas, we are referring to banana cue, which is fried and coated with caramelized sugar. Nilagang saging and banana cue are both commonly sold by street vendors along provincial bus routes, even on city drives and bus terminals around the country, and they are inexpensive, filling, and, of course, delightful, making them perfect to consume while traveling.
